How does Catch determine my personalized lifetime cancer risk?

Nearly half of Americans will develop cancer in their lifetime, but cancer risk varies widely from person to person based on 500+ known risk factors. Catch uses biostatistical modeling and powerful machine learning to calculate your personalized risk for 21 top cancers based on a proprietary Risk Assessment built on the largest longitudinal cancer data set in the world.

What do you mean by “lifetime risk” for cancer?

According to the American Cancer Society, nearly half of Americans will develop Cancer in their lifetime and approximately 1 in 6 will die from it1. However, what most people don’t know is that they can meaningfully reduce that risk through proactive screening and targeted lifestyle changes. Catch’s proprietary AI-powered risk model evaluates your risk factors across 21 cancers to calculate your lifetime risk of developing any type of cancer. This lifetime risk is then broken down into individual risk for each cancer type. Your lifetime risk will change as you take action against your Action Plan and your overall health evolves.

Why is Catch an annual membership?

Catch is a membership because reducing your cancer risk isn’t a one-time event. Cancer risk factors accumulate over time and cancer can strike at any stage in life (with many early onset cancers on the rise in recent decades). The key to reducing your risk is to address your modifiable risk factors proactively over time and get screened based on your evolving risk level year-in and year-out. Catch membership ensures you will do both with a personalized program that costs just $5 per month.

As a Catch member, you will:

  • Track your progress over time: Your risk estimates and Action Plan update as you make lifestyle changes, add health information, and as new research emerges.
  • Get a new optimal Testing Plan each year: Your personalized screening recommendations adjust annually based on your latest risk estimate and age, helping you stay proactive.
  • Ensure you have the most current insights: Science evolves, and we make sure you always have access to the latest, expert-backed guidance for reducing your risk.
How many risk factors does Catch analyze?

Catch is the first risk model capable of analyzing an individual's lifetime cancer risk across 500 unique risk factors spanning lifestyle, environmental, and genetic risks , all of which are clinically proven to impact your likelihood of developing one or more cancers. With Catch, you can understand how factors like your medical history, diet and lifestyle choices, occupational risks, genetics, and biomarkers impact your likelihood of developing cancer - and what you can do to prevent it.

What types of risk factors are included in my Risk Analysis?

Your lifetime cancer risk is calculated based on hundreds of unique factors that have been clinically proven to impact your risk of developing one or more cancers. This includes factors such as your medical history, diet and lifestyle choices, occupational risks, and genetics and biomarkers.

How does Catch reduce my cancer risk?

First, Catch provides a personalized Action Plan addressing the top factors that produce your risk. As you complete steps, your Action Plan will automatically update with your next optimal action to reduce your risk. Average Catch members can reduce their cancer risk by up to 60% by making small, meaningful changes in their daily lifestyle.

Second, Catch generates a personalized annual Testing Plan optimized to your risk for each major cancer. Your protocol will tell you which cancer screens you should do each year based on your actual risk, not generic guidelines. As your risk evolves over time, your annual Testing Plan  will adapt each year to your changing risk factors.

How is my Catch annual Testing Plan different from the cancer screening guidelines at the doctor’s office?

Conventional cancer screening guidelines are based on one factor: your age. With Catch, your annual Testing Plan is personalized based on your unique risk for 21 top cancers, taking into account over 500 risk factors. Your Testing Plan will tell you the optimal tests to do, when to do them, and why.

Is cancer actually preventable?

Yes! Only 10-20% of cancer risk factors are genetic and over 60% of cancer risk is modifiable. The key is that cancer risk factors accumulate over time, so the sooner you can make lifestyle changes, the greater the impact they will have on your lifetime risk. Similarly, most Americans start screening for cancer too late (or not at all). But beginning a proactive annual Testing Plan that is personalized to your unique risk of each type of cancer, you can increase the odds that if you ever did get cancer, it would be caught early when the survival rate for most cancers is over 90%.

Can I see my risk change over time?

Catch tracks your Action Plan completion so you can see how changes you’re making impact your risk over time.

Why is early detection so important for cancer?

Early detection saves lives - over 90% of stage 1 cancers are survivable but the five-year survival of most stage 4 cancers is less than 10%.

Unfortunately, conventional cancer screening guidelines start too late and are based on the assumption that every person has “average” risk for their age. Catch is the world’s first platform to provide a personalized annual Testing Plan for every major cancer based on your actual risk level, calculated based on over 500 cancer risk factors.

By screening early based on your true risk, you can ensure that if you were to get cancer, it would be caught early when the survival rate is over 90%.

How is my annual Testing Plan determined?

We recommend a personalized annual Testing Plan that is often more aggressive than the status quo.  Using the data from your Risk Assessment, we are able to identify which cancers you have the highest risk for. From there, our model will tell you how frequently you should be testing for your specific cancers that we identified as a high risk potential.

How much time does Catch take? Is it hard?

No, with Catch membership taking control of your cancer risk is easy. We have built a light-touch, science based model that allows you to quickly understand your specific risk profile against the 21 major cancers and choose what actions and tests are right for you. We built Catch to be a digital first experience so that anyone can access this important, innovative information and start a cancer prevention plan from the comfort of their home.

Is insurance involved?

No, insurance isn't involved. Catch is designed to provide personalized insights without needing to go through your insurance provider. We charge a transparent annual membership fee, so you know exactly what you’re paying.

Can I see a doctor through Catch?

Catch doesn’t offer direct access to doctors. Our platform is here to support you with information and guidance that you may wish to discuss with your healthcare provider.

Why is early onset cancer on the rise?

Globally, from 1990 to 2019, early onset cancers increased by 79% and certain cancers like colorectal, pancreatic, kidney and breast have seen annual increases of 1-3%. This rise likely stems from multiple, interacting factors in lifestyle, environment, diet and advancement in screening and detection. Catch utilizes over 500 unique cancer risk factors across medical history, diet and lifestyle choices, occupational risks, and genetics to provide members with their personalized likelihood of developing each of the 21 major cancers and delivers a custom tailored Action Plan to reduce your risk proactively, along with an optimal annual Testing Plan to ensure that if you ever get cancer, it is caught early when survival rates are 90%+.

What types of recommendations are included in my Action Plan?

Your Action Plan targets recommendations across environmental, diet, and lifestyle interventions designed to help you make the biggest impact in your cancer risk with achievable lifestyle changes.  Recommended actions may include anything from decreasing your processed meat intake to introducing anti-cancer foods into your diet to getting your home tested for radon.

Each recommendation is personalized to reduce your total lifetime cancer risk and also specific by-cancer risk. You have the power to select the actions to prioritize first based on your cancer concerns and lifestyle goals.

Does a doctor review my information?

At Catch we’ve built the world’s most powerful consumer-facing meta-model for cancer risk, capable of calculating any individual's lifetime risk for cancer and generating an optimal action plan to reduce it. Our model is based on the latest science, but individual user information is not reviewed by a medical professional. It’s important to consult with your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Does Catch diagnose?

Catch does not diagnose medical conditions. We offer insights to help you better understand your health and potential risks, but diagnosis and treatment should always be handled by your healthcare provider.

How is the Catch Membership full risk assessment different from my preliminary risk assessment?

The Catch Preliminary Risk Assessment measures only a small number of cancer risk factors to estimate your risk relative to the overall population. As a Catch member, you will complete a comprehensive Annual Risk Assessment measuring over 500 unique cancer risk factors across your medical history, diet and lifestyle choices, occupational risks, genetics, and much more. This assessment is built using biostatistical models and advanced machine learning applied to the largest cancer dataset in the world and maps your lifetime risk for 21 major cancers, powering both your personalized Action Plan and optimal annual Testing Plan.

Does Catch offer testing or screening?

Catch provides a personalized screening plan with recommendations based on your unique risk profile. We do not at this time offer access to any testing directly. Testing recommendations should be discussed with your healthcare provider.

Using Catch

Something I would have expected seems missing from my Risk Analysis. Why isn’t it included?

Catch focuses on risk factors with the strongest scientific evidence and relevance to your personal risk profile. If a certain factor isn’t included, it may be because current research doesn’t show a clear link for your specific situation. Our model is designed to account for collinearity among many potential factors, helping to avoid including overlapping or redundant risk indicators. We continuously update our data, so as new research emerges, our recommendations will evolve. It’s always a good idea to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider
